Find information about Marshalltown Community College auto mechanics, registering for open degree programs, and taking free practice tests online. Which college degrees offer you the best chances of finding employment after graduation? If you complete the auto mechanics major, for example, there are a variety of specializations that may appeal to you such as gasoline engine repair, racing engine design, or mechanical engineering. Further, due to advances in automotive engineering, there is a growing shortage of auto mechanics graduates, and highly-skilled engineers in general.

Here are some basic tips from an auto mechanic on how to check the condition of an automobile. Does the car start right up when you turn the ignition key? If not, the electrolyte solution in the battery acid may be low, or there may be an electrical short in the charging system. To test brake systems, just tap the brakes at high speed, and see if there's any noise or a spongy feel to the brake pedal, which indicates either air in the brake lines, or decomposition in brake fluid viscosity.

Testing the cylinder compression of either the diesel or gasoline engine is simple as well. Just find a hill, and try to accelerate up it from a standing start, noting any black smoke or backfire noise that results from incorrect ignition timing, valve wear, or pinston ring problems within the engine itself. How does the car shift through the gears? Is it smooth, or do you feel a clunk as it shifts, which may be a signal that transmission repair is required.

Environmental Protection Agency

Marshalltown Community College auto mechanics
The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is one of the principal agencies that work with environmental engineers to protect and improve air, water, and overall environmental quality. Keeping communities safe and healthy requires action to reduce risks associated with exposure to chemicals in industry and the environment, such as controlling the introduction and use of new pesticides.

The EPA reduces radon risks, identifies health risks in schools and homes, and aims to improve chemical management practices. Oversight of chemical storage and manufacturing is a principal focus of attention, as well as efforts to combat air toxins. The EPA also tracks hazardous waste, and protects drinking water from contaminants that endanger public health.

Engineering Job Listings

The Fundamentals of Engineering exam should be taken immediately after earning a bachelors degree from an ABET-accredited program. Engineers who pass this exam are called engineers in training (EIT), or engineer interns. After meeting work experience requirements, engineer interns can attempt a second certifying exam, called the Principles and Practice of Engineering Exam. Thereafter, acquisition of a professional engineering license enables management of junior engineers, the ability to sign off on engineering projects, and provide services directly to the public. Wages vary by employer and location. Aside from salary, most engineering jobs include excellent benefits, as well as retirement plans.
